memorial day...

memorial day is the day set aside to honor people who died while serving in the u.s. armed forces. i would like to thank all those who served in wars, just and unjust.

yes, we must honor and remember the dead but the government also assist the living military veterans with more than lip service.

the veterans should be provided with adequate mental, medical and physical assistance, proper housing, eucation and job training when their tours of duty are finished. too many vets are committing suicide, turning to drug addiction and/or living on the streets because they have lost their jobs, homes and families.

what would be even better, dismantle the military-industrial complex which continuously needs to be fed. stop starting/fighting these wars for oil and natural resources. perhaps it's too late to even think about stopping the wars because we're created a quagmire there's no retreating from. congress can start to dismantle some of the wasteful military programs, redirect the money to programs which help americans and rebuild the u.s.

i obviously have no answers. but i do know that the returning veterans desire something more than just being written off as lost causes or casualties of war.

gasolina...

the last time i rode in a car with a sticker marking where the gasoline needed to go we were robbed. it was in the south of france and only tourists would unwittingly drive around with such an obvious marker. the license plates reserved for rental cars along with yellow sticker on the gas tank served as flashing lights, attracting the attention of any would be bandits. anyway, everything turned out okay but couldn't help remembering the incident when i saw this truck.

may day...

may day... is national workers' day and it is also an international vocal, distress signal used in cases of emergencies. the peoples of the earth and indeed, the earth itself seem to be sending urgent calls for emergency assistance. these appeals appear to be falling on deaf or perhaps, sleeping ears. the clock is ticking and as we reach the 11th hour we had better rouse from our collective slumber and/or daze before it's too late.
